Bedfordshire Yeomanry Silver Plated and Gilt Officers Cap Badge - Gaunt (Late Jennens)

A die cast two part construction silver plated and gilt metal cap badge with the correct voids between the legs. With two original loops to the reverse and maker marked "JR Gaunt, London, late Jennens " (which dates its manufacture between 1924 - 1926). Gilt bright, silver plate dark toned otherwise in very good condition.

The Bedfordshire Yeomanry wore the 'Chicken in a Castle' badge for a very long time at least until they amalgamated with the Hertfordshire Yeomanry in 1961. The eagle represented the arms of the Beauchamp family and the Castle on its breast is said to be the old Bedford Castle which once stood on the north bank of the River Ouse.
