The East Surrey Regiment (31st & 70th Foot) Victorian Other Ranks Bi-Metal Cap Badge
Flat topped Victorian crown with two original dark toned loops tugs to the reverse. Evidence of five braising holes (large one to centre and one on each corner of the star, which have been rather generously filled with braising fluid by whoever made it). Good sharp detail, good colour and real age to this one. Circa 4.1cm tall. The same pattern was used with a change of crown to a King's imperial crown in 1901. Gaylor confirms an all brass WW1 economy version.
K&K Vol 1 Nos 639/640 refer. Gaylor p135.
