Silk Portraits ( Stevenographs ) of Boer War Personalities HM Queen and her Generals
A full set of five " stevenographs ", removed from frame, which by the looks of the mounts was installed above a fire place as their appears to be some heat damage to the two uppermost portraits of Buller and Roberts. Those of Queen Victoria, Kitchener and Baden Powell are in better condition. The claim on the reverse is that they will keep bright for ages to come and apart from some staining to the two mentioned above, they have stood up to that claim very well, some 118 years on. Made by the Silk Picture Weaving Co, of Farnborough in Hampshire, each picture is woven with 3,000 strands of silk. The set was sold via advertisements in the newspapers and magazines and originally retailed at 2/6. These would benefit from remounting and framing. Really good to see the original provenance being kept on the back of each.
