WW2 Early HM Destroyer Royal Navy Ratings Cap Tally

An original embroidered gold thread on black silk ribbon, with swallow tail ends and circa 35 inches ( 68cm ) in length. These "anonymous" cap tallies were intended to ensure that the enemy could not work out which warship was where. Note the full stops.

The tiny white spot in the photo is not a mark on the tally, it was a spec of thread which brushed off.

Tallies bearing HM Minesweeper and HM Destroyer were eventually replaced by a universal tally bearing only "H.M.S." See my other listings for an example.
