42nd or 92nd Highlanders ( Gordon Highlanders / Black Watch ) Large Officers Hallmarked Silver Badge

An atttractive and large die cast female sphinx on a tablet with engraved Egypt below. Single screw / nut fixing to the reverse. Circa 5.8cm wide and 4.2cm tall. Sterling Silver hallmarks to bottom front right of tablet. Slight crack to one side of upright tail, not visible from the front. Also at some point it appears to have been converted from three fixing loops to the reverse, which has two neatly filled holes to either side of the tablet with solder, however, the hallmarks have been partially obliterated by this, date letter no longer visible. A early badge of some quality, not able to identify whether this is 42nd or 92nd Highlanders, but in any event would make a great display item despite its apparent modifications. Possibly worn on the feather bonnet, then adapted for the pouch, or wear on a Drum Major's sash. Any information welcome. Scarce.
