WW1 Tribute Medal Scotswood Newcastle-Upon-Tyne
Scotswood Newcastle Northumberland WW1 Tribute Medal named to E. Edgar Royal Garrison Artillery ( RGA ). 100 such medals were presented in June 1919.
It depicts the old Scotswood Chain Bridge with a dove and sun burst above, which is Christian religious iconography representing the Pentecost (the Holy Spirit of Jesus, love and peace) and a laurel spray below.
Scotswood is a district of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland (now Tyne & Wear). This is an exceptionally attractive WW1 tribute medal in enamels and hallmarked silver, which could also have been worn as a watch fob, and has been adapted later as a pin brooch. While the pin is the original it has lost its c clasp fitting. Enamel is undamaged and the silver is dark toned. Circa 4.3cm tall and 3.1cm wide. Hallmark is hard to read, but looks like Birmingham with a 't' for 1919.
This medallion was awarded to Gunner E. Edgar of the Royal Garrison Artillery (RGA). Not had any luck pinning down this chap in the records.
