Royal Northumberland Fusiliers ( RNF ) Upright Collar 1953-1963 Mess Waiters?

This is not as it would first appear, the standard other rank 's RNF bi-metal cap badge. From the front and dimensions it would appear to be so, but it has two original lugs to the reverse as opposed to the standard issue slider. It is listed in the ' bible ' ( Col Denis Wood's 5th Fusiliers and its Badges) as an upright collar badge (No 242 refers), worn in facing pairs on the collars of the No 2 Dress and the Mess Waiters ' livery jackets. He speculates that they were regimental private purchase for the Mess staff. Circa 44 x 27mm. Has service wear but generally in good condition. Scarce.
