A scarce comic Xmas card from a Free French Naval Forces sailor serving on HMS "La Melpomene". Four sides, in very good condition.
The French roughly translates as: The fishing season has opened! The destroyer La Melpomene, presents its very best wishes to you for the year 1942. On the back page the song lyrics "... to go fishing for sardines". Signed by Bernard Woelfel (he is listed as serving on board at:

HMS La Melpomene was a French destroyer, which took part in the evacuation of Dunkirk in 1940, and was seized shortly after when in Portsmouth. It was operated by the Free French Naval Forces ( FNFL ) between 1940 and 1942, and by the Royal Navy from 1942 until decomissioned in 1943, and returned to the French Navy in 1945. Built by Ateliers et Chantiers de Bretagne in Nantes ( France ).
