7th ( The Princess Royal's ) Dragoon Guards Other Ranks Brass Cap Badge

The 1906 - 1922 pattern cap badge with original slider. Some very light polishing to highpoints, may have been lacquered. In very good condition.

This is an unusual cap badge in as much as its design was a throw back to the the earliest days of the British Army when regiments were styled after the names of their commanding officers. In this case Ligonier's Horse who adopted their Colonel's name in 1720. He was to remain their Colonel for twenty-nine years and this pattern badge, authorised in 1898 (initially in white metal without a motto and from 1906 in brass with a motto ), was the Ligonier Family Crest and Motto ' Quo Fata Vocant ' (Wherever the fates call) which is incidently also the Regimental motto of the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers. The Regiment merged with the 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards in 1922 and a new badge was adopted.
