WW1 Comic Postcard - Finish Johnny! Xmas 1918 - produced by 8th Field Survey Company, Royal Engineers
WW1 Xmas card (blank reverse), Finish Johnny ( Turk ). Some minor corner wear and creasing, but a rare card from the often forgotten army of Salonika. Royal Engineer survey companies usually produced maps, but it is good to see that they had other artistic talents.
The Macedonian front was brought to an end at noon on 30th September 1918 when the ceasefire came into effect.
The British Army in Salonika headed east towards the European side of the Ottoman Empire, while the French and Serbian forces continued north. The British Army neared Constantinople and with no serious Ottoman forces to stop it and the Ottoman government asked for an armistice (the Armistice of Mudros) on 26th October 1918. This card appears to have been produced to reflect the last gasps of the campaign against the Turkish forces.
