Large WW2 Original Photograph of Lord Trenchard with 2nd Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers, Catterick, of RAF interest too
Lord Trenchard (seated centre) with officer's of the 2nd Battalion RSF, with some of the officers named in pencil on the reverse. Many WW1 decorations and medals evident. This is a very large photo ( circa 30 x 25cm). Photo is sharp with good detail. Some corner creasing and one part of image has been damaged (cracked around the third seated officer on the right), but this has not caught his face. Scarce.
Trenchard, at the age of 20, he was gazetted as a second-lieutenant in the Second Battalion of the Royal Scots Fusiliers, and saw service with them in the Boer War where he was critically wounded.
Marshal of the Royal Air Force Hugh Montague Trenchard, 1st Viscount Trenchard Bt GCB OM GCVO DSO (3 February 1873 – 10 February 1956) was a British officer who was instrumental in establishing the Royal Air Force. He has been described as the Father of the Royal Air Force. He commanded the RFC in WW1.
