Scarce sword sold with very extensive research and copy photos of this officer in uniform. (See item 52209 for more photos)

The 5th Fusiliers later Northumberland Fusiliers were unique in having a the regimental device of a fused grenade and St George and The Dragon mounted on the outside of the Guard. This particular swords was manufactured by Hawkes and Co, of No 1 Saville Row, London and embossed on the blade to T.M.S. which stands for Thomas Michael Scanlan. Commissioned in the 24th Tyneside Irish Battalion in 1914, awarded Military Cross twice (with specific citations), MID, and wounded three times, all gun shot wounds. Also served with the 30th, 1st and 8th Battalions, Northumberland Fusiliers. Served also in WW2. An important sword to a senior Irish officer. Died 1982.
