A rare two part '44' and 'Royal Marines' red on blue embroidered cash tapes style shoulder title, removed from uniform (missing the final 'Commando' three part piece strip). '44' in good condition. 'Royal Marines' edges have some ragging and a bit of damage.
44 RM Commando was formed in mid 1943 and served in the Far East.

Formed in 1942 and attached to Commando HQ. There were two signalmen per Commando Troop. This is the second pattern introduced later in 1942 (previously it had been white on black). Silver bullion thread on black felt circular disk, circa 4.5cm in diameter, with hessian backing. In very good condition with some age to it.
Apparently awarded for having completed four parachute jumps but that the individual so awarded had not been called forward for operational duties. Nicknamed Light Bulb men. See Edwards & Langley No 88.

Scarce brass overseas made shoulder title, " Recce " with integral lugs to the reverse. The square lugs suggesting an Indian made and as issued to Indian RECCE units engaged in the Burma campaign. Some wear to gilt finish otherwise in good condition.
