Gloucestershire Regiment Other Rank's Bi-Metal Helmet Plate Centre (HPC)

A bi-metal helmet plate centre for the Gloucestershire Regiment with two side staple-style loop fastenings remaining (adapted for wear on the glengarry). Some verdigris staining to front circlet otherwise in good overall condition. Worn on the glengarry until 1895 with a separate crown above. Also worn with a back badge unique to this Regiment.

Captured French Eagle on tablet inscribed 8, no circle or title. This pattern sealed 1903. Two original brass loops to the reverse. Some small spots of verdigris to the front, but detail is sharp and in good condition. Circa 7.5cms tall.

The helmet plate backing is a standard 8 pointed star made of gilding metal with a laurel wreath surmounted by a St Edwards Crown. The Helmet Plate Centre is a detachable circlet and has the words ‘East Lancashire’ with an Egyptian Sphinx in white metal with a black velvet background. Die struck in gilding metal with original slider for wear with the Wolseley / white foreign service helmet. Circa 3.2cms in wide and 2.9cms tall with original crimped slider to reverse. In very good condition. Commemorates the regiment's back to back action at Alexandria in 1801. A rare pagri badge. See final photo for an image of it being worn.

Bi-metal HPC with all four of four original staple loops to reverse. As worn on the Glengarry until 1895 with a separate crown above. Small fracture in each of the the antlers where they join the head of the deer, but this a small flaw in what is otherwise a smart looking helmet plate centre.
