A very scarce and extraordinarily attractive glengarry badge worn for a limited time only as the unit was redesignated as Engineers in 1877 ( Hay, p244). Darkened silver plate with two original lugs to the reverse. The head of St. David ( of Wales ) in an oak spray to the centre of a strung bugle horn. In excellent condition with minor service wear but with sharp detail.

A universal pattern helmet plate with the title on the circle " 2nd NORTHUMBERLAND RIFLE VOLUNTEERS " with three original lugs to the reverse. Die stamped in white metal Circa 131mm tall and 106mm wide. Sharp detail and no damage to bugle and strings, but there are some very small stress fractures on the right of the central circle. A very scarce badge as worn by the militia, often mistakenly attributed to the volunteers, with three orginal dark toned lugs to the reverse. The badge is in good condition with sharp detail. The only fault is minor damage to the two of the little studs on the top of the orb of the crown (see photo). Circa 7cm tall and 4.8cm wide. Worn circa 1887 - 1896.
